Daily Carry Pocket Survival Kit

Here are the smallest contents of the DCPK. Starting at the upper left I will go through the contents and intended primary uses. The first item is a zipper pull compass/thermometer. The compass is the main reason it is in the kit. If I was concerned about the space and weight I would use a button compass or remove the compass from the zipper pull. The item to the right is actually 11 items. It is a large safety pin with six small safety pins and a string with four size BB split shot. The safety pins are for clothing repairs and a multitude of other uses. The split shot is for fishing.
The third item is a section from a magnesium firestarter (MFS). I cut a strip off approximately 3/8" wide. The fourth item is the striker from that MFS. It fell off and I haven't found a suitable glue to hold it in place yet.

The big green and white item is the coin purse that holds the kit. It is actually a mini money bag that was being given away by a local bank. The top is secured with a zipper which I added a short piece of wire to. This is because I actually carry two of them. The other is my wallet!

The bottom row contains five useful items. The first is a new single edge razor blade. This is for use when an extremely sharp tool is needed or just for an emergency cutting instrument. The next item is actually a strip of paper with fishhooks laid on top which are then covered with tape. This keeps them flat and secure.

The next item is really four things. The first is an EZ Awl needle for sewing or use as an awl. It has two smaller sewing needles beside it. These are held in a piece of 1/2" medical tape. The tape is approximately 6" long and is used mainly in place of bandaids.

The last item is an Executive model Swiss Army Knife (SAK) This has a large blade, scissor, fingernail file/small screwdriver, tweezer and toothpick.

These three items are a Ramen noodle soup flavor packet, a roll of snare wire and a roll of fishing line. The Ramen flavor packet is the spices for flavoring any wild food I may procure. The snare wire is actually 44# test stainless steel fishing leader wire. It is approximately six feet long. The fishing line is 10# monofilament line. It is lighter than I would like, but it is all I had on hand. There is approximately 15 feet of fishing line. Both may be used for repairs and other uses.

These are the last three items that make up the kit. From the left they are a wire 'commando' saw, a balloon and aluminum foil.
The wire saw is used for cutting wood, bone, antler, etc. It may also be used for a snare if necessary.

The balloon is the pocket kit's water container. I prefer the balloon over a condom as it is more durable and less expensive! :)

The last item is sheet of heavy duty aluminum foil. There is approximately two square feet of foil. It can be used to fashion a bowl for boiling water or used to wrap food for cooking in coals of a fire.
