It may look ugly, but it is functional! This is another of my many projects 'in process.' This is an Ontario USAF survival knife which I am greatly modifying. I started by trying to make the sawteeth more effective. This did not work and I filed them off! I then brought the taper back towards the back of the blade. I found it was too steep and the blade itself is too thick. Next I cut the top quillion right off and rounded the bottom one to make it more 'friendly' to my hand. Next I filed the SIDES of the handle down to form an OVAL shaped grip. This helps prevent the knife from turning sideways in your hand. Lastly, I filed down the six corners on the octagon but cap to get rid of the sharp edges. So far it has worked well! I'd like to do some more filing/sanding and get it finished for a back up knife.
